Interview Format

Format

Warwick does NOT interview for most undergraduate programmes — admissions are UCAS-based. Exceptions: Medicine (via the Warwick-Leicester Medical School, which is graduate-entry only and uses MMI), and some programmes may have additional written assessments. Warwick is renowned for Business (WBS), Economics, and Maths. For postgraduate taught programmes, Warwick Business School interviews for MBA and some MSc programmes. Other postgraduate programmes mostly admit on application.

Duration

WBS MBA interview: 30-45 minutes. WBS MSc interviews: 20-30 minutes. Medicine MMI (graduate entry): approximately 60 minutes.

Interviewers

WBS: admissions panel or alumni interviewers. Medicine: MMI assessors. Other postgraduate: departmental academics.

Interview Style & Expectations

Analytical and rigorous. Warwick's culture is intellectually demanding — they want students who can think critically and quantitatively. WBS interviews are structured and professional, testing both analytical skills and interpersonal qualities. The overall admissions ethos values academic excellence and intellectual ambition.

Career (MBA)

WBS MBA: Walk us through your career progression and explain your post-MBA goals.

Tip: Be specific and realistic. WBS values clarity of purpose. Show how the MBA bridges where you are and where you want to be.

Intellectual Depth

What is the most intellectually challenging thing you've encountered in your subject, and how did you approach it?

Tip: Choose a genuinely difficult problem. Warwick values intellectual honesty — admitting something was hard and explaining your approach is better than pretending everything was easy.

Analytical (Business)

WBS MSc: How do you approach quantitative problems? Give an example.

Tip: WBS is quantitatively rigorous. Use a real example that shows structured analytical thinking.

Fit

Why Warwick rather than LSE or Oxbridge for your subject?

Tip: Know Warwick's specific advantages: interdisciplinary approach, smaller cohorts than LSE, strong industry links, campus environment vs. city.

Ethics (Medicine)

Medicine MMI: What are the ethical implications of resource allocation in the NHS?

Tip: Show understanding of NICE, QALY, and the tension between individual patient needs and population health. This is Warwick's graduate-entry programme — they expect more sophisticated reasoning.

  • For undergraduate: your personal statement and grades are everything — Warwick does not interview for standard programmes
  • Warwick Economics and Maths are fiercely competitive — your application needs to demonstrate exceptional quantitative ability
  • WBS (Warwick Business School) is triple-accredited and world-ranked — for MBA/MSc, prepare as rigorously as you would for a top business school interview
  • Warwick's campus is between Coventry and Warwickshire — it's not a city university; show you understand and accept the campus-based lifestyle
  • Warwick has a strong reputation for student enterprise and startups — if this appeals to you, mention it
  • For postgraduate WBS programmes: demonstrate quantitative readiness; the programmes are analytically demanding

Don'ts - Common Mistakes

  • Preparing for an undergraduate interview that doesn't exist — Warwick admits on application for most courses
  • Not knowing that Warwick Medicine is graduate-entry only (you need a first degree to apply)
  • Writing a personal statement that doesn't match Warwick's intellectual culture — too soft, too generic
  • For WBS: underestimating the quantitative rigour required, especially for Finance and Analytics programmes
  • Confusing Warwick with the city of Warwick — the campus is actually closer to Coventry
