How It Works

The Karan Gupta 9-Step MethodTM

A strategic admissions and career framework developed by Dr. Karan Gupta.

From first consultation to final decision — one proven process, whether you are applying to universities abroad, to top Indian institutes, pivoting careers, or heading to grad school. Dr. Karan Gupta personally oversees strategy at every stage. No surprises. No black boxes. No hidden commissions.

The 9 steps, in order

Some families spend 2+ years in the mentorship programme; others come in at Grade 11, as working professionals, or as career-pivot clients, and move quickly through the application steps. The steps are the same — only the pace and emphasis change.

STEP 1

Initial Consultation

60–90 minutes

You meet Dr. Karan Gupta in person in Mumbai or via video call. He reviews the student's academic profile, career interests, extracurriculars, family budget and ambitions — whether that is top universities abroad, leading Indian institutes, or a career pivot. He gives an honest read, including whether the direction you have in mind is the right one. You leave with a preliminary career direction and a clear next-steps plan.

STEP 2

Psychometric & Career Fit Assessment

1–2 weeks

The student takes three licensed instruments — MBTI, the Strong Interest Inventory and InterQuest. Dr. Karan Gupta personally interprets the combined results and maps them to 320+ career paths. You receive a written Career Direction Report that replaces guesswork with evidence. This is the foundation every later decision — programme, geography, applications, career pivot — is built on.

STEP 3

Path & Program Shortlisting

2–3 weeks

Based on the career direction, academic profile, budget and preferences, Dr. Karan Gupta builds a balanced shortlist: universities abroad across 14 study destinations; top Indian institutes such as IIMs, ISB, Ashoka, Krea, O.P. Jindal and BITS; or a structured career path for clients pivoting roles or choosing not to pursue further study. There is zero commission from any university or employer — the shortlist is driven by fit alone. You review and approve the final list before anything moves forward.

STEP 4

Profile & Narrative Development

3–24 months

What this looks like depends on where the student is. Undergraduate applicants: strategic internships, research projects, Olympiads, competitions and leadership positions — aligned to the career narrative, with a 2-year mentorship programme for Grades 6–10. Masters applicants: sharpening the research-fit story, work-experience arc and recommender strategy. MBA candidates: leadership narrative, extracurricular depth, quant/qual framing for round selection. PhD aspirants: research statement, advisor fit and publications pipeline. Career-guidance clients: positioning, skill-gap closure and pivot narrative. Progress is tracked with quarterly reports — nothing runs on blind trust.

STEP 5

Application Strategy & Execution

2–4 months

Every essay, Statement of Purpose, Letter of Recommendation strategy and resume is crafted to reflect the student's authentic story — not a templated one. Round selection, timeline management, recommender briefings and document-level quality control all sit here. You review every piece before submission; nothing goes out without your sign-off.

STEP 6

Interview Preparation

2–6 weeks

Interviews apply at every level. US liberal arts and Ivy schools (MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton) and Oxbridge interview undergraduates. Top Indian programmes such as Ashoka, Krea, O.P. Jindal and BITS run interview rounds. Every top MBA — HBS, Stanford GSB, Wharton, INSEAD, ISB, IIMs — interviews before admission. PhD programmes interview for advisor fit. Scholarships like Rhodes, Chevening, Fulbright, Inlaks and most Indian merit awards interview shortlisted candidates. Career-guidance clients face role interviews. Dr. Karan Gupta runs mock interviews specific to the programme and stage, works on answer frameworks, body language and high-pressure scenarios. The student walks in prepared, not nervous.

STEP 7

Scholarships & Financial Planning

Parallel with applications

KGC runs scholarship strategy in parallel with applications — identifying merit and need-based awards most families do not know exist, crafting financial aid applications and helping negotiate offers. You receive a clear financial plan with education loan options (SBI, HDFC Credila, Prodigy Finance) and EMI structures you can actually live with. For career-guidance clients, this step covers financing certifications, executive education and career-change costs.

STEP 8

Offer Evaluation & Decision Support

2–4 weeks

When offers arrive — whether from universities abroad, top Indian programmes, graduate admits, or roles for career-pivot clients — Dr. Karan Gupta helps compare them on what actually matters: career outcomes, scholarship value, alumni network strength and long-term ROI, not just global rankings. The goal is the decision the student and family will still be happy with five years in.

STEP 9

Transition & Beyond

Ongoing

Accommodation guidance, pre-departure briefings, on-ground introductions via the KGC alumni network at the destination university, and continued support long after the student lands. For India-based students and career-pivot clients, this stage becomes early-career check-ins, onboarding support and a warm community that stays in touch. The relationship does not end at the offer letter — many families come back years later for a sibling, or for the student's own Masters/MBA after work experience.

What this process guarantees — and what it does not

What you can count on

  • Dr. Karan Gupta personally oversees strategy — no junior counsellor handoff
  • Zero commission from any university, ever — written guarantee
  • Three licensed psychometric instruments, not a generic quiz
  • You approve the shortlist before anything gets applied to
  • Quarterly written progress reports during the mentorship programme
  • Honest read — including the option of staying in India or choosing a career path over further study

What no one can promise

  • A specific admit at a specific reach university — admissions are probabilistic
  • That your first-choice course will always be the right choice — psychometrics sometimes say otherwise
  • That studying abroad is always the right call — for some families, Dr. Karan Gupta recommends against it
  • Guaranteed scholarship amounts — we maximise eligibility and craft strong applications, but awards are committee decisions
  • A visa outcome — we can give information on visas, but visa officers, consulates and embassies have final discretion
