Preparation Strategy

Do's - Preparation Tips

  • UAL is the world's #2 ranked university for art and design — the portfolio review is taken very seriously
  • Each of UAL's six colleges has a distinct identity and culture — know which one you are applying to and why
  • Include sketchbooks, process work, and experiments alongside finished pieces — UAL values creative journey over polish
  • Central Saint Martins alumni include Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and many more — know the heritage of your chosen college

Don'ts - Common Mistakes

  • Presenting only polished final work without showing creative process and experimentation
  • Not knowing the specific identity and strengths of the UAL college you are applying to
  • Treating the portfolio review as a passive presentation rather than a creative conversation
