Preparation Strategy

Do's - Preparation Tips

  • McMaster's medical school pioneered the MMI format now used worldwide — understand how it works
  • Problem-based learning (PBL) was invented at McMaster — it shapes the entire institutional culture
  • The DeGroote School of Business also conducts interviews — prepare for behavioral questions
  • Hamilton's healthcare ecosystem (hospital network, research institutes) is a key part of the McMaster experience

Don'ts - Common Mistakes

  • Not preparing for the MMI format if applying to health sciences (it is very different from traditional interviews)
  • Treating McMaster as just another Canadian university without understanding its PBL philosophy
  • Not practicing timed responses — MMI stations are strictly timed
