How to Prepare for Standardised Tests to Study Abroad?
If you are preparing for either the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, IELTS or TOEFL, you need to be aware of several factors that are specific to each exam. Select the test that you are interested in to find out more information.
Tests
SAT
The SAT tests skills such as reading, writing and math. The evidence based reading and writing test consists of a reading section and language and writing section. The mathematics section consists of two sections.
The ACT tests reading, writing and math skills. The exam has an additional writing test which is optional. Besides the English, Math, and Reading, there is a Science section which tests your interpretation and analysis skills.
The TOEFL iBT, evaluates your proficiency of the English language. It measures your ability to integrate your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills while performing academic assignments.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) tests your proficiency in English and consists of four components – listening, reading, speaking and writing. The speaking test is interactive with a certified examiner.
The GRE tests your verbal and quantitative reasoning, analytical writing and critical thinking skills. The GRE is needed for admissions to most top postgraduate courses.
The GMAT is needed for admissions to most top MBA and business related courses. The GMAT is divided into 4 main sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal.
To study in the US,you will have to give the TOEFL for your language requirement but depending on your course you will also have to appear for SAT/ACT(undergraduates), GRE(most postgraduates), GMAT(MBA), etc.
You should give the IELTS if you want to apply to several universities in different countries. If you are focused on the USA and Canada only, you should give TOEFL. You should give the respective exam before you start your applications.
